Term 3 has been very busy at Hernhill CE Primary. We certainly have been ‘living life in all its fullness’.
In January, our 84-strong junior choir performed in a Young Voices concert at the O2 arena in London. They were part of a choir of 8500 school children – it was an incredible experience!
Our Year 5 and 6 children spent an immersive historical day at the replica WWI trenches at Detling Hill which really brought their learning to life.
In February, all classes continued with their ‘Back in Time’ creative curriculum learning. Year R enjoyed a dinosaur workshop from the Maidstone Museum outreach team. Years 1 & 2 designed and made stretchers for a teddy bear (linked to learning about Mary Seacole and Florence Nightingale). Year 3 and 4 experienced Anglo Saxon cooking with Wild Classroom.
We’ve also had a lot of sports events and opportunities this term including football league matches, Year 1 having badminton coaching, Year 4 going swimming in Faversham pool and competitions with East Kent Sports Partnership (cross country, dodgeball, sportshall athletics,
During the term, we welcomed a group of University of Kent PhD researchers into school to meet with the Y1 to Y6 children. The research is into imagination, morality and behaviour and it is turning out to be a fascinating study! The researchers have said that they are delighted with the responses from the children so far and how engaged the children have been, giving very thoughtful and considered views. What superstars our children are! They will continue meeting with children into term 4.
